For Immediate Release – December 30, 2021
On Dec. 30, 2021 around 4:30 a.m. the Charleston Fire Department was dispatched to 1224 Reynolds Dr. in Charleston for a report of a possible structure fire. Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the residence. Crews, working shorthanded due to multiple EMS calls at the same time, were able to make entry and quickly get the fire under control. Additional manpower was requested.
Fire damage was contained to a closet area where the furnace was located. The rest of the residence had smoke and water damage due to extensive overhaul operations to put out hot spots. The resident was at home at the time of the fire and had to escape the home through a bedroom window due to the smoke conditions No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The resident has been displaced.
Crews were on scene until around 7:00 a.m. The Charleston Fire Department was assisted by Mattoon Fire Dept., Charleston Police Dept, Coles-Moultrie County 911 and Ameren CIPS.
