East-Central IL Household Hazardous Waste Event
The IEPA is administering a HHW Collection Event at the Coles County Airport, 10500 State Highway 16, Mattoon, IL on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will end at three o’clock in the afternoon. Participants may register for the event using the registration service found at www.co.coles.il.us/events/. Doing so guarantees faster unloading for each registrant. Participants should enter through the airport’s east entrance at the stoplight by Sarah Bush hospital’s ER entrance. This event is open to all Illinois residents and is co-sponsored by the counties of Coles, Shelby, Douglas, Edgar, Clark, and Cumberland.
Accepted items include oil-based paints, used motor oil, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, old gasoline, pool chemicals, cleaning products, mercury, acids, household batteries, paint thinners, lawn chemicals, solvents, antifreeze, hobby chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticides, fluorescent lamp bulbs, drain cleaners, and corrosives.
Unacceptable items include Latex Paint (dry or absorb and place in regular trash), agricultural waste, business and commercial sector waste, explosives, ammunition, fireworks, controlled substances, propane tanks, smoke detectors, farm machinery oil, fire extinguishers, and biohazard waste.
Residents can dispose of dangerous material that could spill, leak, or impose grave danger to curious children and pets by bringing these hazardous wastes to this 1-Day collection event that is offered free of charge.
