Champaign Installing Automated License Plate Readers

(Champaign, IL) — The city of Champaign is installing Automated License Plate Readers to be used by the police department. Nearly four dozen units will be installed throughout the community. The use of readers was authorized by the city in December for a two-year trial period. The readers will be used primarily to focus on areas that have experienced increased gun violence in recent years.
