ISP to Conduct Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols as Part of “Click It or Ticket” Campaign
EFFINGHAM – Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9 Commander, Captain Nathan Douglas, announces the ISP will conduct Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols (sTEP) in Effingham, White, Marion, Cumberland and Wayne Counties during May.
These sTEPs allow the ISP to focus on the fatal four violations that contribute to the majority of traffic crashes and fatalities: impaired driving, occupant restraint, speeding, and distracted driving The ISP will increase our daytime and nighttime patrols to ensure the safety of vehicle travelers through enforcement of all traffic safety laws. Alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Likewise, speeding is a factor in almost one-third of fatal crashes nationwide, and nearly 50 percent of vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes were not buckled up.
This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
