Illinois State Police have identified and charged a suspect in Monday’s double homicide in Olney, and the details released are rather disturbing. As noted in our previous story covering this same investigation, we assumed that this may have been a family member to the two victims. It seems as if we have gotten the answer to that question today.
Dylan M. Jones, 25, of Olney has been charged with six counts of First Degree Murder for the killings of 52 year old John D. Jones Jr. and 73 year old Deborah J. Jones, whose bodies were found in separate homes in the 400 block of East Monroe Street in Olney, on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the initial investigation, Dylan Jones allegedly struck John Jones Jr. in the head with a sharp-edged instrument and stabbed Deborah Jones with a knife. As of now, the Richland County Coroner is conducting medical examinations to determine the official causes of death. It was not released if either of the weapons used were recovered in the last few days.
The Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office filed the six murder counts following the investigation, which was conducted by the Illinois State Police at the request of the Olney Police Department and Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
No additional information is available at this time.
The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and Dylan Jones is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
