Local hunters looking for a good deal might want to clear their Saturday morning on August 28th… no tag on your stand last year? You might find it right back here!
Friends of Lake Shelbyville, an association that works with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’, is holding a silent auction for impounded deer stands and climbing sticks. You’ll need to head to the government vehicle lot south of the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.. Organizers say 25 tree stands will be up for bid, ranging from two-man ladder stands to single-man ladders and mobile hunting stands.
Proceeds from the auction go toward funding the Annual Youth Deer Hunt in October and the Annual Disabled Deer Hunt in November, so every bid helps support those programs. Anyone interested can view all the stands and sticks in person that morning before deciding what to bid on.
Bidders will need to fill out a bid sheet with their contact information, the stand numbers they’re bidding on, and their bid amounts, along with a liability form releasing the Army Corps of Engineers from responsibility if an accident were to occur following your purchase. Sealed bids will be opened at 10:30 a.m., and stands will be awarded to the high bidders at 11 a.m. that same morning! If a high bidder isn’t present at that time, the stand goes to the next highest bidder, and stands cannot be held or picked up later.
Any questions about the silent auction or Lake Shelbyville’s Tree Stand Policy can contact Park Ranger Tanner Coleman at 217-774-3951, ext. 7006, or visit the Lake Shelbyville website for more information.
