Families that are spending a loved one’s final days together shouldn’t have to worry about how to pay for it… and that’s the idea behind Willow Breeze Hospice House. Thanks to a community bingo night, that mission just got a little easier to fund!
Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Hospice Binga was held in early September, and raised more than $31,000 for the Willow Breeze Hospice House Endowment, which helps cover stays for families with little or no financial stress.
Amy Card, Director of the SBL Health Foundation, said the event’s success comes down to the people who show up for it year after year. “We’re so very grateful for our sponsors, donors, volunteers and Binga participants who come together to raise funds to help those in need,” Card said. She added that Willow Breeze offers families a warm, comforting home with skilled nursing staff close by during some of life’s hardest days, and that the endowment plays a major role in making that space accessible to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. While most insurance plans cover hospice care itself, Card noted many don’t cover room and board, which is exactly the gap the endowment is designed to fill.
The event’s success rested on a long list of local backing, led by presenting sponsor Blake’s Shining Star and the Durdel Family, along with title sponsors Alco Overhead Doors, Commercial Electric, Inc., Cromwell Media and First Neighbor Bank. Event sponsors included Agracel, Vickie Baker, Drs. Roger and Ann Beck, Ken and Christina Maleske, Dr. Michael and Ruth Smith, and Visiting Angels Home Care, with many additional sponsors and donors also chipping in.
