IL Freedom Caucus urges the President and the US Senate to appoint a director to the US Census Bureau
Springfield, IL – The Illinois Freedom Caucus is calling on the President to appoint a director to the US Census Bureau and for the Senate to confirm that appointment to increase oversight and implement reforms before the 2030 Census.
Members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus filed House Resolution 1033 urging the President and the Senate to act. Specifically, the Resolution urges the President and the Senate to:
- Appoint a permanent Census Bureau director
- Prepare for the 2030 Census NOW
- Review the accuracy of the 2020 Census
- Prioritize accurate population counts
- Examine and reform data-altering methods
- Collect citizenship information
- Ensure accountability and transparency
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement:
“The Census determines legislative redistricting. It determines funding levels for states and municipalities. It is used in determining grant allocations and has a direct bearing on the balance of power in the country. It is imperative the Census is an accurate reflection of the citizens of this country. We must remove politics from this important work. It is imperative we have a director who is honest and capable, and we need this director sooner than later. Non-citizens must not be counted in the Census for the purposes of apportionment. Money allocation and legislative district apportionment should be based on the number of citizens in this country. Period. We call on our colleagues in the House to pass this Resolution urging the President and the US Senate to fill this important position so that Americans are fairly and accurately represented.”
