Just ten months after flames tore through their Mattoon location, ILMO Products Company broke ground today on a brand new facility, built on that very same site. The December 16th fire last year brought multiple explosions, potential toxic gas releases, and a two-alarm response from Mattoon and surrounding fire departments, ultimately leaving the original building a total loss…
Wednesday’s groundbreaking marks the company’s recommitment to the Mattoon community that’s been one of their homes for more than 50 years now. While the fire was devastating, Elizabeth McMurphy, ILMO Products Executive Vice President, wanted to make sure those in attendance knew this project was about turning the page, and coming back even better.
Curry Construction will serve as general contractor on the project, with several other local outfits also set to play a role in building the new facility, a noteworthy boost for Mattoon’s local construction companies. In the months since the fire, ILMO’s displaced Mattoon workers first operated out of the company’s Decatur location before the Charleston branch reopened, where they’ve been serving customers ever since.
With construction now officially underway, ILMO Products is making it clear that Mattoon remains central to their future, rebuilding not just a facility, but also a 50+ year relationship.
